"Home Networks" is a broadly used term that means different things to different industry groups, but in this course it means the infrastructure, both wired and wireless, used to interconnect products and systems in the home to support voice, data, and broadband RF applications, and to connect those systems and applications to outside services. Rough-in and Prewire
After the planning process, we're ready to do the pre-wire. Pre-wire rough-in work is divided into a number of simple steps -
- Install the rough-in enclosures and outlet hardware.
- Prepare the cable runs
- Pull and label the cable then secure it
- Protect the prewire until the trim-out
We'll be using the cable and equipment schedule we created during the planning phase to determine what to install where.

Trim-out, Configuration, and System Testing
In the trim-out phase, we'll be doing the following tasks:
- Terminating and testing the cable
- Installing the outlet hardware and covers
- Installing security system and home automation equipment
- Installing the speakers and audio distribution equipment
- Installing the network support equipment in the distribution panels
- Installing off-air and satellite equipment
- Configuring and testing each system for proper operation
